Very well done to a pupil in 6SU, who has won 1st and 3rd place in the 150cm Watford Open Nationals in Kickboxing. Some outstanding cards will have been well received over Christmas, lovely work!

Christmas Displays worked on by year 6

Children taken from each of the year 6 and 5 classes worked their magic to get this wonderful display ready for Christmas, it was based on old Victorian streets and toy shops.

I was very proud of their end result, well done all!

Flag project winner

Children across the year groups worked to create a design for a flag for our local area, these were then voted on and a winner was chosen,
Baylie Tai of 6SC.
Her design was sent to parliament to represent our school and area and hopefully may be one of the final designs chosen, perhaps to be a printed flag!

WW2 – Our visit to Stibbington

We went to Stibbington to experience life as an evacuee during WW2. We learned about evacuation, rationing, propaganda and even experienced a lesson in a war based classroom.

We were given a real evacuees identity for the day to make the experience more realistic. We played with toys that children during the war would have played with. We even had a real war time lunch so that we could experience rationing first hand.

The whole experience was fantastic! We have even written letters home to our parents as evacuees and hope to post them soon.

Everyone in our class had a great day and learned lots about war time. We will use all the things we have learned to complete our WW2 projects next term.

Change Challenge

Our school is taking part in a change challenge. So far it is very close. In 1st, 2nd and 3rd are 4SB, 6JC and 6SC. The winner will go to ten-pin bowling and all the money raised will go to the HSA. So far there has been over £350.06 raised. Every class has had to have an empty pot because they have filled their tub with loose change.

World Book Day

On the 7th March the whole nation celebrated World Book Day. In Irthlingborough Junior School we dressed up as our favourite book characters and read our favourite stories to children in different year groups.

In the morning we had a massive assembly to show off all of our creative costumes. There was a huge range from Gangster Granny (worn by Liam, 6JC) to a Smurf (worn by Brady, 4MG).

Then in our library session we split into groups to read with different year groups. Many people chose Diary of a Wimpy Kid books as they are popular across the ages and some people brought in non-fiction books such as biographies to share. This shows Irthlingborough loves reading!

Altogether it was a brilliant day.

World Maths Day

From Tuesday 5th right the way through to Thursday 7th March the world celebrated World Maths Day. Even though World Maths Day is supposed to be a day long, it is longer due to the different world time zones. Year 6 took advantage of this and went on world education games on Tuesday afternoon for some extra playing time.

On Wednesday 6th March, Irthlingborough Junior School took part in our school maths competition. We were divided into our team point colours and split into groups within our colour. All of the yellow activities were situated in the hall. The red team were in the Year 3 corridor. The green team were in the Year 6 corridor and last but not least the blue team were in the Year 5 corridor.

During our world maths day we had a series of activities to complete before 11:30 am. There were 5 different countries and continents with 3 activities in it. There were Africa, China, Egypt, Europe and India to complete the activities from. Also, you needed to collect white crystals which teachers would give you for teamwork, travelling around the school quietly and other things like that.

Sewing for Mum

Across year 6 we made some lovely things for Mother's day from scent filled hearts to cushions and place mats.  Along the way we have learnt new skills in sewing by using different styles of stitching like, running stitch ,  blanket stitch,  back stitch and chain stitch. Take a look at our lovely surprises below by class 6JC.

Thursday 19th July

All good things must come to an end -  After packing our cases and waving goodbye to the Hoteliers at The Beaufort House Hotel and The Esplanade Hotel we travelled to Osborne House.  We toured Queen Victoria's Isle of Wight holiday home before boarding our return ferry from Fishbourne to Portsmouth.

Wednesday 18th July

Although the weather was not good this did not stop us from having another great day.  After a blustery walk across Tennyson Down we spent the day at Alum Bay.  After lunch we took the chair lift down to the beach to board our boat out to The Needles Light House.  After dinner we enjoyed a surprise trip to the show 'Twisted' before heading back to the Esplanade for our last night disco.

Tuesday 17th July

The sun has been shining on us all day.  After a fantastic theatre workshop where the IJS children took to the stage (again) we enjoyed a picnic lunch and beach games.  The afternoon saw us taking part in fun and games on the sea with Wightwater Ltd.  We ended the day with a game of crazy golf on Shanklin Esplanade.

Monday 16th July (Evening)

A windy (but dry!) walk to Sandown Pier - fun and games enjoyed by all.  Children all quiet and asleep ready for a busy day tomorrow including a theatre workshop and bodyboarding (if the sea is rough) or kayaking (if the sea is calm).

Monday 16th July

We had a great journey down and a very windy (early ) ferry.

As today is not really a 'beach' day we decided to visit Dinosaur Isle in Sandown for the afternoon.  Everyone has settled into their hotels and after our evening meal (Sausage and Potato wedges in The Beaufort / Fish and Chips in The Esplanade) we will be heading to Sandown Pier.  The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is much better....
